Each year, TLG accepts a number of internships from students in Master’s Degree, Doctoral Degree and Post-Doctoral Degree programs. Internships typically last 9 months (August – May). The nature of the internship depends upon the student’s degree program as well as professional experience.
Practicum One trainees can (1) provide therapeutic home-based tutoring of school-age children whose parents have disabilities that limit their ability to help with homework (in families who are our clients); (2) assist staff therapists with case management; (3) conduct intake interviews by phone of parents with disabilities calling from all over the U.S. regarding custody problems relevant to child protection systems or family court, prior to their services; (4) assist with outreach; (5) assist with research.
Clinical Interns provide family therapy, infant-parent psychotherapy, and, if interested, play therapy. Most services are provided through home visits. Trainees also collaborate with developmental specialists. Responsibilities include necessary case management including liaison work with other agencies, record-keeping, goal-setting, and report writing.Trainees receive one hour per week of individual supervision with a licensed clinical psychologist. Trainees also participate in 1.5 hours of group supervision per week.
