Home-Based Services

TLG provides home-based developmental services for families and their young children who have had particularly worrisome and difficult beginnings or who have ongoing physical, medical, or developmental problems. TLG also provides home-based services for children who have emotional or behavior difficulties, and provide support for the relationships between parents and children. Our services combine expertise in infant mental health, early childhood development, family therapy, disability adaptations, and peer counseling. Services are tailored to meet the social, emotional, and cultural needs of each unique child and family.

Developmental Services

TLG is a vendor of the Regional Center of the East Bay and provides Infant Development Services for children birth to age 3 in Alameda and Contra Costa County. Our developmental specialists—who come from a variety of disciplines—partner with families to support child development using a routines-based intervention framework and coaching model. TLG developmental specialists have particular expertise in working with families in which a parent or caregiver has an intellectual disability.

Emotional and Relationship Support

Families can have home visits from a social worker, psychologist, or family therapist, many of whom have personal or family disability experience. These providers focus on nurturing and supporting relationships between parents, children, and families by facilitating parenting skills, peer and adult interactions, and problem solving. Play therapy, as well as individual therapy for older children, is available. TLG clinicians support the social/emotional development of children and youth with disabilities, medical issues, or emotional/behavioral needs. Our services include a contract with Alameda County Behavioral Health to provide services for children birth to 18 years with Medi-Cal.

CCS Youth Group

In collaboration with California Children’s Services, TLG facilitates an ongoing youth mentoring group for youth with disabilities who are transitioning from teenage to adulthood in the East Bay. The participants range in age from sixteen to twenty-two. The purpose of the group is to empower participants to gain independence and mentor other youth to do the same. The group focuses on issues such as job readiness, self-advocacy, college preparedness, and obtaining housing.
